The Engineering Seismology research group at the University of Liverpool are part of the School of Environmental Sciences. The group focuses on a range of issues related to seismic hazard. Our research aims to quantify and understand the occurrence of earthquakes and induced shaking, along with the related seismic hazard and risk. We work with earthquakes at a variety of scales, from small induced events related to geothermal energy and hydraulic fracturing - often in extremely close proximity to urban environments - to larger, but rarer tectonic (natural) events - which have the potential to cause destruction even in relatively aseismic regions, such as northern Europe. We work and consult on various national and international projects related to induced seismicity and seismic hazard, both in academia and industry.
